They Are Easy To Take On Airplanes
The Martin Backpacker guitar is a gem for traveling. In previous years I had nightmare experiences trying to take a regular guitar on an airplane. It doesn't fit on the overhead of a plane or under the seat. Some airlines even want you to purchase an extra ticket to take one in the plane.
Have you seen how luggage is tossed onto planes? Checking your guitar in baggage is risky. That wasn't an option I wanted to use.
What a pure relief to find out about these Martin Backpacker guitars! Traveling with them is a breeze. They easily fit in the overhead of a plane.
They Are Easy To Carry!
Weighing just 2 pounds, it was a pleasure to travel with. You can carry it over you shoulder and still have your hands free for your luggage. The sound is not as loud as a full size guitar, but the fingerboard is essentially the same and the quality of sound is quite nice.
Keep One In Your Car
I always leave one in the trunk of my car and on more than one occasion had an instrument to play when requested. For example, one of my friends had a birthday party in a park.
She looked at me and said, "You don't happen to have a guitar with you, do you?" I pulled out the Martin Backpacker and we could sing her favorite songs at the park.
One difference with these little guitars is that it's best to use the guitar strap with them. If you're used to sitting with a guitar, it doesn't rest well on your leg. It also feels quite different with such a little body. It took me a few days to get used to playing it.
I suggest giving yourself a week or two to adjust to the size. Then I suspect you'll be very pleased with it, as I am. Especially for traveling. It's perfect for taking with you. It's so light and so easy to transport

Great guitar but yeah, the head is a little unwieldy and heavy relative to the rest of the guitar so a strap helps. I love this guitar though.
