What Are the Best Core Exercises?

If you want to keep fit and healthy, it is important to take care of your core muscles. These are basically the muscles that are responsible for all of your movement within the body. From walking to swimming and jogging to cycling, they all use up different core muscles. Therefore in order to get fitter, you need to strengthen the core muscles.

When you search for core exercises, you will find that there are quite a lot of different ones available. So just which ones are the best core exercises and how often should you do them?

Good Pilates Exercises

Pilates and core strengthening poses are two forms of exercising that really help to build up your core muscles. There are a few poses in particular that can really help.

The Plank is one of the best core muscle exercises. It helps you to build up endurance as well as strength. To do the exercise correctly you might find it easier to start by kneeling on the floor. Bend your arms at the elbows and place them on the floor in front of you with your hands interlaced together. Then when you are ready, lengthen your legs so that you are resting on your forearms and only your toes are touching the floor. You should hold the pose for 10 seconds to begin with. Try to aim to do this exercise at least once every day. That way you will build up strength and you will be able to hold it for longer each time.

As you become more familiar with the Plank exercise, you will be able to advance it and add leg lifts as well as arm lifts too. It is definitely one of the best core exercises that you should try.

The Pelvic Thrust exercise is also great for your core. Lying on your back, bend your knees at a 45 degree angle and ensure that your feet are shoulder width apart. Move your hands onto your hips and then slowly start to move your pelvis up towards the ceiling. Make sure that as you raise the pelvis, your body stays still and in line. You should raise the pelvis up until your body is in line from your shoulders to your knees.

You will also need to ensure that you are not putting any pressure onto the neck. When you are in the correct position, hold it for 10 seconds before slowly releasing it down again. You can repeat the exercise as many times as you like. Again this is another exercise that you should aim to do once a day.

The main reason why you should choose Pilates style exercises is because they do focus on strengthening the whole body. You may find it more beneficial to do these exercises in short bursts. Some research has shown that working out in short bursts is often better for weight loss and for the body. Try to avoid jogging if you want to strengthen your core muscles as it can put too much pressure onto the body. If you follow this advice and take part in daily Pilates style workouts, you should soon start to feel a difference in your core muscles.

The best exercise for the "core" is the dead-lift. It will develop steel cords that run from your lower back, up to your trap muscles. Performed consistently, it will do the most toward strengthening your lower back area. In that sense, I feel it is the most practical exercise, since we do lift objects quite often, and if you do not use the correct lifting technique, you can easily injure your back.

Thanks for your comment. I've never even tried a dead-lift. Blessings,
